TRAWLER YACHT CHARTER IN TURKEY

A trawler yacht charter is a private, fully crewed holiday on a wide, stable motor yacht built for comfort rather than speed. You book the whole yacht for your family or friends; a captain, chef and crew sail it, cook for you and take care of everything on board, while you swim, relax and explore the Turkish coast.

Trawlers are the most spacious charter yachts on the Turkish Riviera. Their broad hulls carry three decks (lower, main and flybridge), so cabins are larger than on a gulet or motor yacht of the same length, most have their own shower and toilet, and guests have plenty of private space. Generators keep the air conditioning running, and large swim platforms make getting in and out of the sea easy for every age.

The name comes from the trawlers of the North Sea: long, high-sided fishing boats designed to cruise slowly and steadily with wide working decks. Turkish yacht builders, most of them in Fethiye, took this hull shape and built leisure yachts from scratch around it, replacing the fish hold with a salon, large guest cabins and generous sun decks.

The result is a yacht that is slower than a fast motor yacht but far more stable and roomier. Typical cruising speed is 9 to 12 knots, ideal for the short hops between bays on the Turkish coast. Compared with a traditional gulet, a trawler offers bigger cabins, more air conditioning, more privacy and modern interiors.

Trawler charters usually start in Fethiye or Göcek, and depending on availability also in Marmaris or Bodrum. Because trawlers cruise at a relaxed pace, a one-week route works best within one region:

• Fethiye and Göcek: the most popular week. Around thirty sheltered bays in the Göcek gulf, Gemiler Island, Ölüdeniz and Butterfly Valley. Fethiye to Göcek is about one hour.
• Kekova from Fethiye: sunken city ruins, Simena castle and quiet anchorages.
• Marmaris: a large peninsula with enough bays for a full week, about five hours from Göcek.
• Bodrum and the Gulf of Gökova: Marmaris to Bodrum can take up to twelve hours, so this suits a two-week charter.
• Greek islands: possible on request with the right paperwork.
